Welcome to Family Medical Care of Smithfield
Dr. Shannon Pope and Dr. Tom Pope, a husband-and-wife team, are both double-board certified in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics and have experience and expertise in family-centered care for patients of all ages — from birth to childhood to adulthood to advanced ages.
Prior to relocating to Smithfield, Shannon and Tom practiced Internal Medicine & Pediatrics in Williamsburg, Virginia for two years. They decided to return home to start their own medical practice, raise their children, be closer to their families and long-time friends in the area and most importantly, provide the highest possible caliber of care to their community.

Our family has been going to Family Medical since they opened. They stay on top of our routine care and get us in when we have an urgent need. Tom, Shannon, Donna and the whole staff including Danielle in the background have taken great care of our family. The best part is that they are locals that came back to start a practice and are not part of the giant healthcare entities that churn through exams and procedures. I would not trust any other medical professionals with my kids and my parents don’t want to move anywhere else due to having such amazing medical providers right here in Smithfield. If you need to change your appointment, please provide as much advance notice as possible, so that we may adjust our schedule and care for another patient’s medical needs. Cancellations with less than 24-hours notice or no shows will be charged a $25 fee for routine visits and $50 for complete physicals and well child checks.
